Paragon Mill, Jersey Street, Manchester
Vigorous red brick with stone trim and some Baroque details such as the open pediment. Built by a Mr Porter of the Fine Cotton Spinners' Engineering Division, 1911-13. Underneath the brick is steel and concrete. Pevsner notes that the mill was "designed to house electrically powered mules, with electric motors housed in towers ... in the first generation of those purpose-built for electricity, which was supplied by the Corporation." Grade II* listed.
Almost all the 'windows' here are not real but painted. The plan is to convert it to flats.

"Hall? St Bee-ter?s a Chorus of Industry"
Part of the Bee in the City project, sponsored by The Hallé supported by Siemens plc, designed and decorated by Daniel Gubba and sited in Cutting Room Square, Ancoats. The name is another instance of an excruciating pun typical of the project.
The design reflects the Hallé’s relationship with Manchester’s industrial heritage, and its base in Ancoats at Hallé St Peter’s. It celebrates the wonderful partnership between the Hallé and its principal sponsor Siemens – a perfect blend of music and industry. The artist’s family history in Ancoats, the street names, music shops of old and the brass of the instruments have all influenced this design.

Ancoats, Cutting Room Square
Part of the redevelopment of the Ancoats district of Manchester, Cutting Room Square is the centrepiece of the new public realm for Ancoats: the first public square ever to be built in the area. It is oriented around 5 towering photographs of the former cutting and pattern rooms of the adjacent Royal Mills.

Ice Plant Building, Blossom Street, Manchester
Handsome former warehouse, now just a facade, built for storing food. The surplus ice nurtured a flourishing ice cream industry in the late C19th. Built c1860.
It is being redeveloped and converted to commercial use with flats above - see the slightly unfortunate protrusion. This is one element of the regeneration of East Manchester, centred around Ancoats, which faces some interesting challenges.
