Rochdale Road, Collyhurst
On the left is May's pawnbrokers. It says it was established in 1825; whether it was always on this site, I don't know, but it has been here for a long time, despite the changes all around. This area originally had traditional terraced housing, but in the 1960's these were cleared. We are now at the stage where the flats that replaced them are also being demolished and replaced.

The dedication on the southern aspect of Image] reads:
TO THE MEMORY
AND HONOUR OF ALL
MEN AND WOMEN
OF THE
BRITISH ARMED FORCES
WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES
IN DEFENCE OF
THIS COUNTRY
I think that this is probably a later inscription added to the memorial to commemorate those who died in conflicts post-1919.
