244 Lightbowne Road, Manchester
Terraced housing lines Lightbowne Road in the low profile Lightbowne area of North Manchester, England. I say low profile because it is not as well known as the neighbouring North Manchester districts of Moston, Newton Heath and Harpurhey. This particular photograph is centred on number 244 Lightbowne Road - a red-brick terraced house that is typical of both Manchester and Greater Manchester as a whole.

St. Mary's Road, Moston
This railway bridge over St. Mary's Road is decorated with fancy metal arches. It would like rather good with a fresh coat of paint.

Newton Heath station and Down freight out of Manchester, 1962
View SW towards Manchester Victoria on the ex-L&Y main line to West Yorkshire via Todmorden. The Class J freight has an unusually smart ex-WD 2-8-0, No. 90402, which was built by NB Loco as WD No. 78612 and shipped to France in 1/45 for use behind the Armies, returning in 1947, stored at Parkestone Quay for a year or two, then put to work on BR(LMR) as No. 90402, surviving until 4/64.

Joyce Street, Moston, Manchester
This view is looking up to St. Mary's Road. There are allotments to the left, and each morning one allotmenteer lets her poultry out to run around the patch of grass. She sold my two companions fresh eggs! She has a variety of hens, ducks and geese, and it is strange to see them running around in the city by a busy road. I don't know what their traffic sense is like!
