Ferranti House
On Wickentree Lane, Hollinwood. Now occupied by a market research company, Ferranti House was the headquarters of Ferranti Ltd, a major UK electrical engineering company known mainly for defence electronics, power grid systems and computer development. Sebastian de Ferranti relocated his company here in 1897 when it outgrew its original London premises. The company closed down in 1994 after over 100 years of innovation in several "high tech" sectors.

This plaque was on a building on Wickentree Lane, Failsworth. Ferranti were electrical engineers. There is a sizable entry in Wikipedia. They went bankrupt in 1993 after over a hundred years of trading.

I noticed a plaque on this building, so got out to take a look. It says that the electrical engineering company had a factory here in 1897. Ferranti was founded in 1885 and went bankrupt in 1993. I have not included a link to the Wikipedia entry, as the Wiki page talks about links on a blacklist. I don't know what it means, but thought it safer not to join this entry with that site.

Hope Methodist Church
The present Hope Methodist Church on Oldham Street was built in 1991. It replaces a previous church built in 1866. That was a replacement for an earlier building on the corner of Evening Street.
The United Bedware shop next door would seem to be more ephemeral.
