Armed Forces Day Hat
One of the community hats on the Hats Off To Denton Sculpture Trail in Forget Me Nots florist on Ashton Road. Armed Forces Day, the annual celebration in Victoria Park is the inspiration behind this hat. Incorporating elements from designs created with Tameside Air Cadets as well as words from a poem written by local veteran George Watkins that he performed on multiple occasions at the event on the top of the hat. It was designed by Toubie Jack who with a mural painting and graphic design background, has an eye for detail. She loves working with the community; particularly with young people so was thrilled to be involved in Hats Off to Denton. The Air Cadets are a UK- wide cadet force with more than 40,000 members aged between 12 and 20. The Tameside branch meets in Ashton but has many members from Denton. Sponsored by the Royal Air Force, Air cadets gives members hands-on experiences from parades to flying light aircraft and encourages a spirit of adventure.
