Cathedral Approach

The Cathedral on the Street
The "Cathedral on the Street" or "Pop-up Cathedral" has been erected on the pedestrianised section of Victoria Street, outside Manchester Cathedral. The Tudor-style lodge, which is partly made from recycled decking, will be used as a temporary home for services whilst restoration work is carried out inside the cathedral. Crap cycle facility at Victoria Street, adjacent to Manchester Cathedral
Victoria Street has been closed to vehicular traffic and adorned with planters. a short section of two way cycle path has been provided near the junction with Cathedral Approach. The cycle path terminates at a large puddle, after which it joins a 'shared use' path along the pavement. Despite a pair of shared use cycle path signs there is also a 'cyclists dismount' sign on one of the poles.

Spinningfields is a large business, retail and residential complex in Manchester, that lies in the western portion of the City Centre, between south Deansgate and the River Irwell, which is undergoing huge development. There will be a total of 20 buildings within the area, spread over 6 acres.

River Irwell, Station Approach and Manchester Cathedral
A view of the cathedral from Victoria Bridge. In front of the cathedral, over the river, is the bridge carrying Station Approach, the approach road to the former Manchester Exchange Station. The station closed in 1969, and both it and Station Approach are now used as a car park.

In the centre of the picture is Cathedral Approach which was the vehicular access to Exchange Station. Later it became the entrance to a car park Image Now it leads the new high rise office buildings have been built as part of the Greengate Development. On the right, leading past the cathedral, the end of Victoria Street is now pedestrianised.
