Corridor of Light - Our Beating Heart
Under the name Studio Vertigo, light artists Lucy McDonnell and Stephen Newby design objects that transform our day-to-day environment and turn the world upside down. For Corridor of Light, Our Beating Heart featured a giant mirror ball in the shape of a heart that slowly rotated on a vertical axis, creating a visual spectacle of thousands of spots of light moving in fantastical, swirling and changing patterns across Manchester’s newest neighbourhood, Circle Square.

The building which was built on a site bounded by Oxford Road, Charles Street, Brancaster Street and the River Medlock, was built between 1971 and 1975; it was officially opened by Prime Minister James Callaghan in 1976. The building was vacated in November 2011 when the BBC completed its move to MediaCityUK and, less than a year later, is now just a pile of rubble.
