8 Great Marlborough Street, Manchester
Perhaps late C19th and built as a warehouse, but now used by Manchester Metropolitan University. A red plaque records that it stands on the site of Little Ireland where "large numbers of immigrant Irish workers lived in appalling housing conditions. Built c1827. Vacated c1847. Demolished c1877."

6 Great Marlborough Street, Manchester
A plain but nicely proportioned warehouse, though not nice enough to be listed. Similarities with the neighbouring building (Image]), including decorative corbelling at the top, suggest they were built of a piece. Now occupied by Swinton Insurance.

Detail of 7 New Wakefield Street, Manchester
Very exuberant entrance to J & J Shaw's former furniture showroom and cabinet warehouse. Oddly, the decorative details depict fruit and flowers (was this for a later owner?). The flowers around the door are Art Nouveau style. No prizes for guessing the date, 1924. Information partly from http://manchesterhistory.net/manchester/tours/tour7/area7page18.html. Now partly occupied by the Font bar.
