Former church hall, Portsmouth Street, Manchester
Built as an accompaniment to Holy Name of Jesus (Image]) by Edmund Kirby, 1892. Impressive chimneystacks. All in a deep red brick, and while it appears to have terracotta trim, built of nothing else, according to Pevsner, which makes it a fine display of brickwork. Hard to fathom why it isn't listed. Now the Jabez Clegg "beer hall, bar and restaurant", quenching the thirst of University of Manchester students.

Chaplaincy, Oxford Road, Manchester
A typically uncompromising piece of 1960s architecture. It is curtain-walled with a saw-tooth roof and slender concrete ribs detached from the outside wall. By Mather & Nutter.
