Grass grows quickly
Originally the site of Belle Vue Zoo from 1836 - 1977 Image In 1989 Showcase Cinemas Image opened on the site. It closed permanently in March 2020 at the start of the coronavirus pandemic and has now been demolished. The 13-acre site was sold to Manchester City Council. It will be replaced by The Co-op Belle Vue Academy run by the Co-Op Academies Trust. Meanwhile the wild grass grows high.

Construction work at Belle Vue
In 1989 Showcase Cinemas Image by the side of the A57 opened on the site of Belle Vue Zoo. It closed permanently in March 2020 at the start of the coronavirus pandemic and has now been demolished. The 13-acre site was sold to Manchester City Council. It will be replaced by The Co-op Belle Vue Academy run by the Co-op Academies Trust. Construction is now underway.

The site of Belle Vue Zoo
Outside the site of the former Belle Vue Zoo is a plaque on a stone Image which reads: Belle Vue Zoological Gardens 1836 - 1977 This monument to humans and animals marks the gateway to the gardens (world famous funfair, speedway, wrestling and many more attractions) In 1989 Showcase Cinemas Image opened on the site but that too has now gone and the plaque is marooned on an island of long grass.
