Clayton Lock No.8 with trams
This is the bottom lock of the Clayton flight and is Listed Grade II. The trams are on the service to Droylsden.

Ashton New Road Bridge, Ashton Canal, Manchester
This bridge, as can be seen from its construction, post-dates the canal by many years. At one time, both Manchester and Ashton-under-Lyne corporations ran trams over the bridge, to be replaced in the 1930s by a joint service of trolleybuses. But all were gone long before the above 1981 photograph. The road is the A662.

Where Bank Street meets Ashton New Road
The building at the front was a NatWest Bank, with Ciba Geigy offices behind it. The site has now been taken over by the police. The Derby Arms appears to be still trading successfully, now as part of the Inntrepreneur Group.

Spicy Mango (former Derby Arms)
The former Derby Arms Image on the corner of Ashton New Road and Bank Street, Clayton. The pub has been converted into a group of shop including a takeaway, the "Spicy Mango". At this point in time the pub sign Image is still flying and the old name remains on the Bank Street side Image
