An Openshaw Camera
This fine, but somewhat neglected, red brick building is located on A635 Ashton Old Road between Wood Street and Odell Street. The terracotta datestone indicates that it was built in 1890. I'm not exactly sure what purpose it served as there are no signs or anything around it. It has a decent corbelled brick chimney to the rear. The building looks as though it could do with a good shave.

Former Whitworth Baths
Whitworth Baths on Ashton Old Road in Openshaw, were built in 1890 and designed by Manchester architect J. W. Beaumont in honour of celebrated philanthropist and engineer Sir Joseph Whitworth. I've been unable to find out when they closed but they were already semi-derelict in 2009 when the inside were photographed by urban explorers http://www.whateversleft.co.uk/leisure/whitworth-baths-manchester A petition to save the building in 2010 http://www.petitionbuzz.com/petitions/savewhitworthbaths secured less than 300 signatures. Some old photos can be found on Andrew Simpsons blog at https://chorltonhistory.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/inside-whitworth-baths-on-ashton-old.html Image Image Image Image
