Former lodge to Newton Hall
Newton Hall itself has been demolished and replaced with a housing estate but the lodge on Chapeltown Road, bearing the date 1856, survives and is listed grade II (list entry 1255604). The listing gives a potted history of the hall, mentioning that the lodge had ceased to function as such as early as 1879.

St Martin's Institute
Rather grander than your average church hall, the Institute was erected in 1902 opposite the church, architect Percy Robinson. It is on two levels: the grade II listing (list entry 1256155) says the upper level is 'reputed to contain a ballroom with stage and balcony'. I can confirm that, having attended a barn dance here. See Image for a view of the other side of the building.
