Eastern portal of the former Pudsey Tunnel
The tunnel, about 550m long, opened in 1893 and carried the LNER railway line that ran from Stanningley through Pudsey to Laisterdyke and down to Shipley. The nearby station closed in 1964 although the line may have been used for freight traffic for a short time after. The cutting floor is not totally overgrown, and the portal has gates but has not been bricked up, suggesting that it is used for storage. See Image for the other end. Another website http://www.lostrailwayswestyorkshire.co.uk/Pudsey%20Loop.htm has photos of the interior.
