Wolsey Ltd. commenced in Bramley in 1914 when Broad Lane Mills were built. The Bramley concern is only one section of a vast organisation which employs 3,000 workpeople in its twelve factories in many parts of the country. French Drawing and Worsted Mule Spinning are carried on, these processes not being done anywhere else in Bramley. Great quantities of yarn are used in the manufacture of every class of footwear, underwear, outerwear and swimwear. Approximately 2,000,000 lbs is spun each year in Broad Lane Mills, where work has been continuous day and night, since the building of the mill.
