Riverside Mission Institute, Leeds
Riverside Mission Institute outside of the building. This was on the wharfe at Warehouse Hill and was originally used for services by St James Church and then the Parish Church. When the services were discontinued the mission was taken over by the Seamen and Boatmen's Friend Society to 'promote the social, moral, and religious welfare of the river and canal population of Leeds and District'. Workers from the mission would visit boatmen and their families and Sunday services were held in the Mission Hall. The Institute also had a reading room, billiard room, kitchen and courthouse. There was a Sunday School on Sunday afternoons and classes and meetings were held for the women during the week.

Riverside Mission, River Aire, Leeds
A small stone building on the wharf at Warehouse Hill known as the Riverside Mission Hall was originally used for religious services by St. James' Church and later by the Parish Church. When the services were discontinued, the running of the mission was taken over by the Seamen and Boatmen's Friend Society 'to promote the social, moral, and religious welfare of the river and canal population of Leeds and District.'
The workers from the mission visited the boatmen and their families, and held Sunday services at the Mission Hall. But the missionaries were not just concerned with the spiritual welfare of the boatmen; they also ran the Riverside Institute where there was a reading room, a billiard room, and a kitchen and wash-house for the use of the boatmen’s wives. There was a Sunday School at the Institute on Sunday afternoons, and classes and meetings for the women during the week.
