Thorntons Buildings, Leeds
This building on the corner of the Headrow and Lands Lane consists of shops and offices, and was built in 1873 Image It is grade II listed (list entry 1255861) where it is attributed "possibly" to George Smith for client Charles Thornton. The shop on the corner was until quite recently the Carphone Warehouse Image but they have now moved into the Trinity Centre and this unit is to let.

Pablo Fanque Blue Plaque in Leeds City Centre
This blue plaque in Lands Lane, just off The Headrow was unveiled on Saturday 16th September 2023 by the Leeds Civic Trust. It has the following wording:
PABLO FANQUE
Born William Darby, he was the first
Black circus owner in Britain. He
regularly performed in Leeds.
On 18th March 1848, near to this
location in King Charles' Croft, his
circus building collapsed causing
the death of his wife Susannah.
Both are now buried in the
Leeds General Cemetery.

Pavement widening on the Headrow
Part of the ongoing redevelopment of the Headrow is reallocating road space to pedestrians by widening the pavement in the areas of heaviest footfall.
