Old Milestone by the A64, Kiddal Lane End, northeast of Leeds
Metal plate attached to stone post by the A64, in parish of BARWICK IN ELMET AND SCHOLES (LEEDS District), nearly opposite Fox & Grapes PH, near white house, set in block of concrete in front of wall, under road sign, on North side of road. TP iron casting, erected by the County Council in the 19th/20th century. Inscription reads:- : TADCASTER / 6 / MILES : : TADCASTER AND HALTON DIAL / TURNPIKE ROAD : : LEEDS / 8 / MILES : Grade II listed. Old milestone
Another of the six plated milestones remaining from the 11.8 mile long Tadcaster to Halton Dial (Leeds) Turnpike Road. The Trust was first enacted in 1751 and by the 1870s had been wound up. This stone is sited at Kiddall Lane End opposite the end of the lane and a public house. It was last painted in 2013 by a Milestone Society member. It is Grade II listed 1357411.
