On the south side of Whitehall Road just west of Gildersome Lane, B6126, is the one remaining milestone from the Leeds to Whitehall turnpike which opened in 1833.
Left face - TO/Halifax/10½/Miles Right face - TO/Leeds/4/Miles.
TO surrounded by 2 concentric circles. Place names - sloping. Miles - upright.

Possibly the last of the original milestones on this road, which was built c.1826. Surprisingly, it is not ‘listed’, although most if not all of the West Riding County Council milestones of 1892-4 are.

Old Milestone by the A58, Whitehall Road, Moor Top, Morley parish
Carved stone post by the A58, in parish of MORLEY (LEEDS District), Whitehall Road, Moor Top, inset in tall stone wall near traffic lights and Moor Top Motors, on South side of road. Erected by the Leeds & Halifax turnpike trust in the 19th century.
Inscription reads:-
