Old School Lofts, Whingate, Armley
According to an estate agent's website, Old School Lofts is "the former West Leeds Boys School, a Grade II listed building built in 1907". The list entry (ref. 1255670) clarifies that in fact it was co-educational from the start, taking 400 boys and 400 girls, in a building notable for its time in its concrete construction which is not evident from the stone cladding. The architect was William Broadbent. The school closed in 1992 and was subsequently converted into 66 flats.

Charlie Cake Park, Armley
The park occupies the triangular site at the junction of Town Street and Whingate. Its curious name is explained locally as referring to a man who sold cakes in the area in the 1850s. The park is maintained by the Armley Common Right Trust. One of our contributors has given a more detailed version of the story on a local news website here: https://westleedsdispatch.com/marks-history-charlie-cake-park-armley/
