Buttressed wall by the canal
At this point along the canal it is in effectively a shallow cutting with about 3 metres of exposed natural rock, but on top of that is a tall brick wall with substantial buttresses. Behind the wall are two storage tanks associated with Premier Farnell (electronics factory). See also Image

Swan on ice
The swan was waddling along rather unsteadily on the part-frozen canal. Shortly after I took the photo, it managed with some difficulty to get airborne.
