Marshall Court, Marshall Street, Leeds
A former flax warehouse, listed grade 2* (list entry 1375161). The listing explains that "this was the first building Marshall built on the south side of Hol Beck when he extended his works in 1808 and it illustrates the early use of the cast-iron frame, being the earliest surviving of his Leeds buildings to use the cast-iron column and beam and brick-arch system". It is now home to several businesses in both the engineering and service sectors. Note the sheep on stilts Image

Cast iron bridge over the Hol Beck
Built in 1849 to replace an older wooden bridge that connected John Marshall's mill on the north side of the beck with his later mills to the south. Recently cleared as some of its overgrowth as part of the reconstruction of the retaining walls alongside the Hol Beck. Listed Grade II. There were formerly several other small bridges across the beck between this one and the railway bridge but they have all been removed.

A wintry start to Spring
The last day of March brought a brief period of near-freezing weather. In Leeds it was intermittent snow and hail showers through the day, little of it settling. The attitude of the two construction workers at a development on Water Lane indicates the strong wind that added a chill factor.
