Railway pigs in Silver Street, Minting
Heavily shaded but unmistakable: former railway goods waggons.
The owner was happy to tell me the history. They came from a yard he thinks was near Worksop, in the late 1960's. He saved up to buy them to keep pigs in, they cost about £30 each. The diagram of layout of the pig accommodation is inscribed in the dust on the back window of my car, and includes sheltered areas at the sides for the piglets to get under so that they were safe from being squashed by their mothers.
The owner says that although they are now rather ramshackle, he has left them there for sentimental reasons. A worthy subject to photograph!

Churchyard
The graveyard surrounding St Andrews, Minting.
The ground is rich loam, and heavily infested with rabbits, which may explain why so many stones are leaning. There are lots of snowdrops this year

St Andrew's Church, Church Lane, Minting
Grade II* Listed the church of St Andrew originated from around the year 1200, which was then added to in the 15th century and then almost fully restored in 1863 by the architect Ewan Christian, a date indicated on the rain hoppers. Inside the church on either side of the chancel stands a richly decorated cross, now in two pieces. As there is little weathering on the stone, it has been suggested that the cross came from the Benedictine priory. The cross is a rare cross shaft of the Anglo Saxon type but of around 1200 date. At the foot of the chancel arch is the roughly hewn bowl of an earlier octagonal font which was dug out from below the altar in 1930. The font, roofs, chancel screen (which contains c.1500 panels) and fittings including the altar rail and pulpit are about 1900.
