Crimean memorial
A large block of granite from the walls of Sevastopol, brought home by Major (later Colonel) Ellison. The depression on the right with radiating cracks is reputedly damage sustained by shell fire in the Crimea and set in the ground below are two defused mortar bombs.

St.Helen's church
Externally, St.Helen's looks Victorian but it has late 13th century origins with a blocked early English 2-bay arcade of c1300 inside. Restored by Hodgson Fowler in 1887, now redundant, superseded by the larger Holy Cross church in 1940, it regularly falls prey to vandalism.
