Lincoln Central Station, Lincoln
A view from the western end of the station from a nearby footbridge. Lincoln Central is the remaining station following the closure of Lincoln St. Marks in 1985. The building was designed for the Great Northern Railway by J.H.Taylor, a London architect, in "Baronial" style. It was completed in 1848, two years after the nearby Lincoln St Marks (Midland Railways) station. John Henry Taylor (1791/92-1867) was a London based architect practising from Parliament Street and Queen Street. In 1861 he was District Surveyor for Lambeth. Among his commissions were churches and chapels, a bank and a lunatic asylum.

This footbridge from Oxford Street - the A57 - (behind the photographer) to Tentercroft Street. It carries foot traffic over the rail tracks on the approach to Lincoln Central Station’s eastern end. It was built for the Great Northern Railway and opened in 1851. The bridge is in two parts with a dog-leg connection on the Oxford Street side.

LNE B1 4-6-0 at Pelham Street crossing, Lincoln
View NW in 1947, just east of Lincoln Central station (visible in the left background), at the infamous Pelham Street level-crossing where a main street crossed a very busy railway causing traffic congestion for over 100 years until a flyover road was built in 1961. To the right, trains ran in four directions: northward, ex-GC line to Barnetby, Immingham etc.; eastward, ex-GN to Boston etc.; southeast, ex-GN&GE Joint to Sleaford, Spalding and March; south, ex-GN to Grantham. The locomotive, Thompson B1 No. 1077 was built in 9/46 and lasted until 5/62.

Railway Station, Lincoln
I'd just parked up south-side of the footbridge and went to see what was about just in time to see Class 47832 pulling out of the station. I think it must have brought a shopper's special in for the Christmas Market. It was a miserable day and actually throwing it down with rain. Four other photographers line Pelham Bridge.
