Monks Road
In 1885 a Congregational chapel was built in Croft street but it seems that by the turn of the century it had become a Primitive Methodist chapel or mission room. Anyway the Congregationalists built another (mission) chapel here at 189 Monks Road, architect J H Cooper of Lindum Road. The foundation stone was laid June 23 1898 by Mrs Ruston of Monks Manor. The southern extension was added in 1900. By 1967 this became the Elim Pentecostal Church and by 2002 was Tuach and Bowness builders workshop. In the March 2003 Co-op half year report they advised they had acquired the site for development as a food store to open around Easter 2004.
