Looking through to the Cornmarket.

A rather striking early 19th century commercial development of 5 shops/offices, still in fairly original condition. The whole row was Grade II listed https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101359879-22-28-even-cornmarket-louth & https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1359879 in 1954, albeit with a minor amendment 20 years later.

A block of late 18th or early 19th century houses, which have latterly had commercial conversions to the ground floor. The stone coping above the 3rd storey has lost the ball finials which once graced it. A recent innovation - a book stall that sells cut price magazines. Overall a busy day on the market, helped by the warm autumn sunshine.

The building on the left is 17 Cornmarket an early 19th century Grade II Listed building. The doorway is 18th century and has been brought from elsewhere.

Nos 18 & 20 date from the 18th century, and were probably built as houses, then later converted to commercial use - the windows and glazing to no 20 on the right are original early 19th century. They were collectively Grade II listed https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101063245-18-and-20-cornmarket-louth & https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1063245 in 1974.

Grade II Listed the Kings Head is to thought to date from the 17th century with a 19th century frontage. Pevsner tells us that it was dressed up in a Victorian Gothic style, probably by G R Willoughby, who was the landlord in the 1840s and this is supported by the 1841 directory referring to it as the New Kings Head. Directory entries include; 1828 Isaac Beecham (& excise office); 1835 Susannah Beecham; 1841 George Rivis Willoughby, New King's Head (& excise office); 1856 George Rivis Willoughby (& town surveyor); 1868 Henry Joseph Bettinson; 1885 Nimrod Long; 1889 Henry Ryan (& posting house); 1901 no name given; 1913 William Peak.
