Neuadd y Penrhyn - Penrhyn Hall
This hall was presented as a gift to the city by Lord Penrhyn in 1857. During WWII it became home for the light entertainment section of the BBC which had been evacuated from London. It was from here that the famous comedy programme 'ITMA', with comedian Tommy Handley, was broadcast. After the war, it became, in turn, the northern home of Welsh language broadcasting, being replaced only lately by a new studio in Upper Bangor. The Hall is now used as the meeting chamber for the Bangor City Council.

Infantrymen. Forward As One.
An Army recruitment poster for Welsh Infantrymen - 'The Best in the World'. Due to amalgamation, the Welsh Infantry regiments, alas, have been reduced to two - The Royal Welsh and The Welsh Guards. The introduction of a recruiting policy based on regimental teams from the Welsh infantry, cavalry and artillery regiments, together with, in rural Wales, the introduction of the Welsh language as a recruiting medium has proved highly successful and, even in this difficult period, recruitment levels in Wales remain high. Just under 10% of all soldiers below the age of 25 in the British Army are Welsh. The Welsh people form about 5% of the population of Britain.
