An Army recruitment poster for Welsh Infantrymen - 'The Best in the World'. Due to amalgamation, the Welsh Infantry regiments, alas, have been reduced to two - The Royal Welsh and The Welsh Guards. The introduction of a recruiting policy based on regimental teams from the Welsh infantry, cavalry and artillery regiments, together with, in rural Wales, the introduction of the Welsh language as a recruiting medium has proved highly successful and, even in this difficult period, recruitment levels in Wales remain high. Just under 10% of all soldiers below the age of 25 in the British Army are Welsh. The Welsh people form about 5% of the population of Britain.
