The Original Factory shop, Caernarfon

Commemorative Fountain, Caernarfon.
The fountain at the far end of this shopping street was opened in 1868 when the Prince and Princess of Wales opened the taps to celebrate the provision of the new water supply to the town.

Former Fountain on Pool Street, Caernarfon
This fountain was erected in 1868 to mark the completion of a new town water system. The new water system was built in response to a cholera epidemic in 1866. The fountain was originally situated in Castle Square (Y Maes) but was moved due to re-development in that area. There is a bi-lingual plaque on the fountain which reads: CODWYD Y FFOWNTAIN I DDATHLU CWBLHAU CYNLLUN CYFLENWAD DWR NEWYDD AR GYFEWR CAERNARFON. AGORWYD H'N SWYDDOGOL GAN EU HUCHELDERAU BRENINHOL, TYWYSOG A THYWYSOGES CYMRU,25 EBRILL,1868. AC AER Y GORON YN PERFFORMIO'R SEREMONI O AGOR Y TAPIAU. * * * * * * * * * * THIS FOUNTAIN WAS ERECTED TO CELEBRATE THE COMPLETION OF A NEW WATER SUPPLY SCHEME FOR CAERNARFON. IT WAS OFFICIALLY OPENED BY THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES THE PRINCE AND PRINCES OF WALES 25 APRIL,1868. THE HEIR TO THE THRONE PERFORMING THE CEREMONY OF TURNING ON THE TAPS.
