This fountain was erected in 1868 to mark the completion of a new town water system. The new water system was built in response to a cholera epidemic in 1866. The fountain was originally situated in Castle Square (Y Maes) but was moved due to re-development in that area. There is a bi-lingual plaque on the fountain which reads: CODWYD Y FFOWNTAIN I DDATHLU CWBLHAU CYNLLUN CYFLENWAD DWR NEWYDD AR GYFEWR CAERNARFON.
