Express Motors
A surprisingly frequent service is provided through the high villages by the distinctively-coloured buses of Express Motors. This view of Optare Solo MX55 BYD was facilitated by the unexpected collaboration of the unknown driver, who slowed obligingly for the shot. The ubiquitous slate waste-heaps form the backdrop.

The Old Mills at Chwarel Fron Quarry
These old quarry mills are now owned by Hogan Brothers - a major, Bangor-based, road maintenance company Image The signs on the buildings are an anti-tipping measure. Fly-tipping into quarry pits is a persistent problem and the company's policy is to prosecute anyone caught illegally tipping waste on to its land. Further, the company promises a reward of £250 to anyone providing information that will lead to the successful prosecution of a fly tipper.

Chwarel Fron Quarry
This photograph taken from the road shows the Chwarel Fron Pit. This was worked from the mid-19th century until the 1950s. In its hey-day the quarry employed up to 100 men. The quarry is now owned by Hogan Brothers, who work the tips to provide hard core for road building.
