Borth-y-Gest
Borth-y-Gest lies 1 mile (1.6 km) to the south of Porthmadog. Ships were built here before Porthmadog was established. This was also the starting point of a major crossing over the wide and dangerous Glaslyn estuary, and locals earned money by guiding travellers across the treacherous sands of Traeth Mawr to Harlech.

Ebenezer chapel Borth-y-Gest
One has to assume that this is no longer used as a place of worship as there are no chapel signs or noticeboards, whilst the OS map extract on the geograph website no longer shows a chapel here. It is still shown as such on my old 1996 edition 1:25000 map of the area.

The bay at Borth y Gest
A pleasant village set around a crescent shaped bay. Anyone arriving here with bucket and spade might be disappointed with the beach which is mostly shingle, mud and weed, but there are much nicer beaches just around the next headland - and inaccessible by car.

Southerly gale
It is not often that the little harbour at Borth y Gest gets as rough as this.
