Ivy-thatched ruin
A picturesque, hill-top ruin with an exuberant thatch of ivy. No name is attached on any map I have found, but it appears to have been a house of note because it has a bay at the front door. The location gives a grand view of the lower Conwy Valley, but I would rate it rather exposed. A patch of mature Scots Pine and Oak trees occupies the remainder of the hilltop. The present footpath takes a strange route over the hill past the door, suggesting that the site has a history of occupation. Research note: Local sources tell me that this house has never been occupied, or even completed. Originally an agricultural shelter was located here, and an attempt to convert the site to a dwelling without planning consent led to abandonment before a roof had been fitted.

Ruin
This photograph was taken from near the north-western end of a public footpath that connects the B5279 (right) with the B5106 (left) to the north of Ty’n-y-groes. The footpath is part of a walk that leads from St Mary, Caer Rhun to Ty’n-y-groes and back via Pontwgan. The stones between the trees are from a ruined building, but whether this was a barn or some other structure it was impossible to say.
