Dolgarrog turbines and generator
A view of the turbine hall at Dolgarrog hydro-electric power station, showing the water-inlet pipes and turbines of Units 2 (left) and 3. The generator of Unit 2 is the square box at the left of the image, while that of Unit 3 is just out of the frame. These machines are operated from the high-head pipeline from Llyn Cowlyd, and were on load at the time of imaging.

Control cabinets
The control gear for the penstocks and turbine generators at Dolgarrog hydro-electric power station. From the right hand end of the console, are the controls for Units 5 to 2 which are located at Dolgarrog, and off the image to the left the single unit at Cwm Dyli. The large gauges indicate that Unit2 was generating around 10 megawatts, Unit 3 was generating around 7 megawatts, and Cwm Dyli was not generating. Computer-based monitoring and interface to the system is now the norm, as illustrated here Image

During the long closure of the low-head system while the pipeline is renewed from Coedty Reservoir, the opportunity has been taken to install a new turbine and generator for Unit 4. The construction of the new bed for the generator is in progress, while the rotor of the generator can be seen beneath wrapping to the right.
