Marine Hotel
Originally called the Adelphi Hotel, for five weeks in 1890 it was home to Queen Elisabeth, the wife of King Carol of Roumania. She visited the National Eisteddfod at Bangor and was admitted to the Gorsedd of Bards as Carmen Sylva, the pen name she used for the novels, poems and essays she wrote in four languages. She toured North Wales and was entertained by the nobility at Penrhyn Castle (Bangor), Baron Hill (Beaumaris), and Mostyn Hall (Mostyn, Flintshire). She attended concerts in Llandudno's Pier Pavilion and worshipped at Llanrhos church. Carmen Sylva Road, and Roumania Crescent in Craig-y-Don were named after her. http://historypoints.org/index.php?page=queen-of-romania-s-hotel

The Marine Hotel, Mostyn Crescent, Llandudno
Originally built in 1865 as the Marine Hotel, it was later renamed the Alexandra Hotel in 1891. In its earlier years, it was also known as The Adelphi, and it famously hosted Queen Elisabeth of Romania (1843-1916) in 1890 who penned as Carmen Sylva.
She was a writer and poet, and her works often focused on Romanian folklore and legends. She was also known for her patronage of the arts and her interest in Romanian culture.
