A swan-neck lamppost, Ashby
This delightful cast-iron lamppost is located near Holy Trinity Church, in Ashby-de-la-Zouch. It was manufactured by Revo of Tipton, and is extremely rare - the majority have been replaced and scrapped, while a small number have been saved and erected in private gardens. I am uncertain of this one's age, but it was possibly erected when the Holy Trinity Church Hall was built in 1957. Remaining examples are rarely operational, but the presence of a modern compact fluorescent bulb is promising. I still remember the ominous sight of the lamp's light cutting through the foggy night, on leaving the church after school Christmas nativities as a child!

Churchside Walk, Ashby-de-la-Zouch
This follows the line of the former Ashby to Melbourne and Derby railway line, itself built on the line of the early 19th century horse-drawn Ticknall Tramway. The houses, built in the early 21st century, are on the line of the tracks themselves

Holy Trinity church interior
The superb interior of this church contrasts with its rather stark exterior appearance. This Early English style church has galleries supported by iron columns and an 1891 ironwork chancel screen. The chancel at the far end was an 1866 extension (by J. P. St Aubyn) to the original church. In all there is room for about 600 people.

Old route
After the Ashby Canal failed to reach its namesake town, the route was employed by tramways which, after they were disused became local footpaths. This path has been created in this way and runs between Kilwardby Street and Tamworth Road and is named Church Walk
