Looking towards the A6 from inside Ellis Park. This park was originally two small fields used by drovers as an overnight resting place for animals on the last stage of their journey to Leicester Market from the Market Harborough area. The fields were eventually given to the people of Oadby by Mrs R. Ellis, wife of Mr G.H. Ellis, owner of the Leicester Mining and Railway Company. Mrs Ellis declared the park open in 1898. The car park on the right serves Oadby (indoor) Swimming Pool, situated on its right.

A footpath close to Brabazon Road, almost parallel with the A6, passes the entrance to Ellis Park. An elderly water fountain (date unknown), restored by the Oadby Rotary Club, can be seen ahead. A public swimming pool car park is situated to the left of this picture.
