St Mary's Church, Morcott seen from School Lane
Morcott means 'moor village'. St Mary's Church is the most complete Norman church in Rutland. It originally had a small nave and chancel and west tower. The north aisle was seed in about 1150 and the south aisle seen here was added in about 1200.

Church of St Mary, Morcott
Looking down the nave from the chancel with the 12th century tower arch at the far end. All the guides refer to a pair of hatchments on the tower face, but one has been removed, possibly to display the early Norman doorway on the left above the arch.

Church of St Mary, Morcott
Detail of the south side of the chancel. The Norman priest's door survived various rebuildings. The window to its left is a 15th century insertion, the low sill allowing a view into the church during services for those such as lepers who could not be allowed into the church.
