New Housing in Melton Mowbray
Part of a new estate off Asfordby Road. The old Great Northern and London and North Western Joint Railway embankment is visible in the background. Some houses were occupied, but most were not when this photo was taken.

Footpath and stile
The stile marks the point at which the footpath leaves its alignment along the old railway embankment (right). It used to head across fields at this point, but these have now succumbed to housing development
Image where the right of way has become a road for a short distance.

Disused Farm Building
Located close to the River Eye beside an area of redevelopment. This building has been partially demolished since the current aerial photos were taken and will no doubt have disappeared before the next batch. I think it was once a hen house, or similar.

Former railway bridge over the Wreake
On the disused track of the railway line which used to run north-south through Melton Mowbray. The wide foundation of the former rail bridge now carries a narrow footbridge.

Beside the Embankment
A short terrace of houses served only by a path sit on a triangle of land between the old Great Northern and London and North Western Joint Railway embankment and Asfordby Road. The terrace was built in 1878.

Where Once Thundered Trains
Looking across the River Eye towards the embankment that carried the Great Northern and London and North Western Joint Railway to Melton Mowbray North station. The original railway bridge has gone, though the cast iron support pillars and a badly decayed wooden cutwater remain. A footbridge, that doesn't seem particularly robust, has been put in place for the permissive path that follows the line of the railway. Geographers David Lally and Stephen MacKay can be seen 'eyeing' up the river.
