Footbridge remains
On 1 February 2008, this footbridge was struck by a lorry engaged on engineering work and fell in front of a train. Fortunately casualties were light. It will be interesting to see whether the cost of repairing the bridge will be considered justifiable for what is probably very limited use. This is the view from the ramp down to the former goods yard.

Down iron ore train passing Barrow-on-Soar Station
View SE, towards Leicester, London etc.; ex-Midland Main Line, St Pancras - Leicester - Trent etc., etc. Note that the platforms were only on the Fast lines, but this station has more recently been relocated. (See also Image).

Up coal train at Barrow-on-Soar Station
View northward, towards Trent and the North; ex-Midland Main line London - Sheffield. With an ex-LNW 0-8-0 (No. 49450), this train is probably a Toton - Willesden (Sudbury Sidings) working, which will run via Leicester and Rugby. Cf. Image

New footbridge over the railway, Barrow-upon-Soar
It's encouraging to see that my pessimistic description to my previous picture http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/687744 from this viewpoint has not been borne out, but the new, single span, bridge is suitably marked to try to avoid a repeat! The original bridge can be seen in Ben Brooksbank's 1962 view http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1766282
