Loughborough, Leics (Cattle Market Area)
This cinema straddles two streets, Cattle Market and Market Street and faces Granby Street. It opened its doors in 1914 as "The Empire" but was then rebuilt in 1936 and reopened as "The New Empire", albeit retaining many of its main entrance features. In 1953 it traded under the name of "The Essoldo" as part of that chain. In the early 1970s, when the Essoldo became part of the Classic chain, it was renamed "The Curzon". In 1973 it was remodelled into a multiscreen enterprise and further auditoria were added in 1985 and 1991. Penultimately it bore, perhaps somewhat stoically, another name “The Reel”.

The Odeon, Loughborough
This old cinema is redolent of the heyday of the movie industry and Saturday morning matinees. In fact, a cinema first opened here in 1914 as the Empire Picture House. The art-deco building seen here was designed by architect Archibald Hurley Robinson and opened in 1936. It has had various names over the years, becoming the Odeon in 2011.
