Kendal Museum, Kendal
Kendal's first museum was founded in 1796 but only moved into this building in 1913. This building was built in 1864 as the wool auction warehouse of Whitwell and Hargreaves.

The Castle Dairy, awaiting flood repairs in 2016
Castle Dairy, located in Wildman Street, is a former farmhouse dating from the 14th century. It is Grade I listed - for architectural details, see Images of England http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/details/default.aspx?id=75521 .
The building was restored in 2011, becoming a fine-dining restaurant and training centre for catering and hospitality apprentices from Kendal College.
In December 2015 the restaurant was a casualty of flooding caused by Storm Desmond. After a lengthy drying out period necessitated by the historic building materials, the refurbished restaurant reopened in May 2017 (Castle Dairy website https://castledairy.co.uk ).
