Castle Howe, Kendal
Castle Howe is a motte and bailey castle, probably pre-dating the stone castle on the other side of the valley. The obelisk on the top of the motte was erected in 1788 and dedicated to liberty, commemorating the 'Glorious Revolution' of 1688 when James II went into exile and William of Orange was invited to become king by Parliament.

Cliff Terrace, Kendal
These houses have gardens opposite, on the east (right in the photo) side of the narrow access road. The land slopes so steeply that there are steps down to each garden. The end house has a large three-storey tower and must have wonderful views from the windows.
