St Sylvester's RC Church, Vauxhall
The influx of Irish Roman Catholics into this dockside area of Liverpool led to a necessity for a RC church to be established. Funds were raised from various sources to buy the site where stood a shed which had been used for mass since 1875. This Gothic style, red brick church was built and the first mass was said in 1899.

The northern end of the Eldonian Basin
The Leeds & Liverpool canal has had three termini in Liverpool. Originally it ended at Leeds Street, nearer the city centre. When this section was abandoned, Eldonian Basin became the terminus. Since 2009 canal boats have been able to go down the Stanley Locks and through the docks via the Liverpool Canal Link to much more central moorings. Canal guide books show a winding hole at the end of the Eldonian Basin, but this is an error, it is at the junction with the Stanley Locks branch.
