The influx of Irish Roman Catholics into this dockside area of Liverpool led to a necessity for a RC church to be established. Funds were raised from various sources to buy the site where stood a shed which had been used for mass since 1875. This Gothic style, red brick church was built and the first mass was said in 1899.
