This plaque is on the large memorial stone which lies just inside the entrance from Links Road. The Polish words 'Najkrótsza droga' translate as 'The Shortest Way' and are a reference to Operation Market Garden (Arnhem 1944) at which the 1st Polish Independent Parachute Brigade fought and which, if it had been successful, may well have shortened WWII by several months.
