Leslie Railway Company marker
From 1861 the Leslie Railway Company was responsible for a short section of railway connecting the town of Leslie to the Edinburgh, Perth and Dundee railway. In 1872 the company and the line became part of the North British Railway https://www.scripoworld.com/records/united-kingdom/scotland/leslie-railway-company/ This marker is at one end of West Mill road bridge which is now part of a footpath/cycleway running from Markinch to Glenrothes.

Sappi Road, Markinch
This is Sappi Road - or West Mill Road, depending on which map you consult! The bridge is the old Balbirnie Viaduct, now part of a pedestrian path. Beyond the bridge is the new housing development of West Mill. This road will be the main access road to the development when it is completed. Note: The houses to the right of the image are built on the location of the Balbirnie Paper Mill (from Canmore) which later became Sappi Graphics or Sappi Mill. At the other end of this road there once stood a mill known as West Mill which could account for what seems to be the 'double naming' of this road.

Mill Lade
This heavily overgrown tunnel carries the Mill Lade under the A911 Glenrothes to Leven road. The Mill Lade was originally the water source for several mills along its length but it is now long-disused and broken up into several sections. Note: 'Mill Lade' (or 'Mill Leat') was the term given to the water source used to power a watermill. They were a man-made channel taking water from a suitable river.
