This new development is being built by Persimmon Homes. The viaduct is the Markinch Railway Viaduct which carries the main east coast rail line. The tall red tower on the left belongs to the (now defunct) Haig's whisky bottling plant - once a major employer in the area.

Balbirnie Viaduct Path
The Balbirnie Viaduct Path which starts here Image reaches this point and splits into two. The right-hand path reaches a T-junction at the bridge which can just be seen in centre image where going left leads into Markinch and going right leads to the A911 main road. The left-hand path continues under the aforementioned bridge and eventually reaches Markinch railway station.

Leslie Railway
While the railway branch to Leslie was closed in 1967, this bit is still shown as a railway on my 2002 1:50,000 map and served the paper mills until sometime in the 1990s. It is now a cycle/footpath including the Balbirnie Viaduct.
