Circular doocot

Doocot
Situated on the north side of Pittencrieff Park this Doocot was built about 1770 when George Chalmers owned the estate.It is built in The Circular Pavilion Style with a Castellated Top.

Old Dovecot, Pittencrieff Park, Dunfermline
The Old Dovecot is located to the right of the main drive leading into the park from the Louise Carnegie Gates. The sandstone dovecot dates from the late 18th or early 19th century. Statue of Andrew Carnegie, Pittencrieff Park
Dunfermline's most famous son, philanthropist Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919) bought and donated the park to its citizens. The blue plaque on the plinth reads: Andrew Carnegie Statue - This bronze statue erected to Dunfermline's most famous son was paid for by public subscription. The sculptor was Richard Goulden. 20,000 people attended its unveiling in 1914.

Bronze plaque on the plinth of Carnegie's statue in Pittencrieff Park
Beneath Dunfermline's heraldic motto 'Esto rupes inaccessa' (Be an inaccessable rock) it reads: Andrew Carnegie - Born in Dunfermline 26th November 1835 - Having achieved great success in business in the United States of America he devoted his fortune to the good of mankind - This monument is erected by his fellow citizens in grateful appreciation of his many gifts to his native city - AD1914.
